As a result of the recent tornadoes
in Western Massachusetts we have
received numerous phone calls
regarding "coverage" for this type
of a loss. Although it is difficult
to assess coverage by a phone call,
there are times it is possible.
While we are talking about
tornado coverage it's also a
good time to touch upon
hurricane coverage. Hurricane
season runs from
06/01/11-11/01/11.
The short answer to "Am I Covered"
is Yes. If you have wind coverage
you have
coverage
for a tornado and/or a
hurricane...subject to your
deductible. As we saw this week no
one is immune from Mother Nature. A
damaging storm could hit anyone at
any time and while you are looking
at the devastation to your home may
not the best time to think, "Am I
covered?" Look at your policy today
and contact us to review it with you
if you have any questions or
concerns. Together let's make sure
you have the appropriate building
coverage.
While we're discussing storms, does
your family have an emergency plan
in case of a catastrophic storm? It
is important to review where your
family should go during a storm such
as in the cellar, away from windows,
in the bathtub, etc.
Also, setup an escape route and a
specific place for everyone to check
into as soon as possible after a
storm or any other natural disaster.
Maybe a neighbor's home or call a
relative in another city to just
check in. This way you can be sure
everyone is safe as quickly as
possible. The time to discuss these
issues is NOW, not after a storm has
hit your area.
As always we are here to help - call
us if you have any questions or
concerns about your insurance
coverage.
